Chinese Herbs are powerful plants used to promote and maintain health and to prevent and treat disease. The herbs are used based on their flavour (i.e. pungent, sweet, bitter, sour, and salty) and natural properties (i.e. cold or hot, cool or warm, rising or falling, floating or sinking). The herbs’ flavour and natural properties are used to rectify imbalances, strengthen weakness, improve energy, release toxins, and to regulate the function of internal organs
Ancient Chinese and Egyptian papyrus writings describe medicinal uses for plants as early as 2,000 BC. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 80% of people worldwide rely on herbal medicines for some part of their primary health care.
Chinese herbs are usually used in combinations and raw forms in order to be more effective and establish balance in the body. They are rarely used singly. Combination is more effective and may have fewer side effects.
Herbs acts gently by supporting systems and processes that have become deficient and helps to remove excesses in the body in order to restore the natural balance. There are about 600 different herbs in common use today.
